"Are you oldengineer?" I yelled at the catalina 25 crusing towards me and my students. We were aboard halcyon , the school's TR/SK. The young girl on the bow appeared to say something to the older gentleman at the helm. I imagine it the conversation to be: That guy in the other boat is yelling something, but I cant hear him.". His boat swung around, and I told my helmsman to slow down. As he came alongside I yelled my query again. Yes was the response, he was old engineer! It was nice to see someone else from the site on the water. As he cruised back to quantico I remembered to snap a pic. BTW, you can dock at leesylvania and go up to the store, I'm sure the young lady would enjoy that.

Did you get to sail? The wind picked up about 30 minutes later.

Todd,

I yam, I yam! It was good meeting you, even over 25 yards of water. The young lady at the bow is my grand-niece and First Mate, just beginning to learn how to sail.

Yes, the wind did pick up on our way home to Quantico, and like an old fool, I tried to raise main and jib by myself (since my First Mate wasn't qualified yet). Big mistake. Pualani was dancing all around in the freshening wind, and I expended way too much energy hanking on the jib while fighting to stay upright and on board, and almost passed out from the exertion. Not smart. To add insult to injury, as we got closer to home port, the wind died! The only good news was the engine started right up on one pull, and we were able to motor in to the marina safely. Oh yes, and finally for any other Forum readers, Leesylvania State Park is an excellent facility, with a well-stocked general store, a sit-down snack area, and outside, two well-maintained launch ramps with full docks. The Woodbridge Sailing School is based there as well.
