This group, or its slightly different makeup back around 1999, was a key reason for our choice of a C-25 as the boat my wife and I bought as our first cruiser after getting our daughters through college. It was back in the days of this forum being on Trailersailor.com, before some amazing volunteers created and found hosting for this separate site.
About five years later, I lost my wonderful "Admiral" to cancer; a year after that I moved to a new area and developed a new relationship, and after another couple of years decided the sailboat wasn't working for my circumstances. Thus, indirectly, "Voyager" Bruce Ross is now Passage's owner, and I'm ecstatic for her!
All the while, I keep finding that this community is a treasure that I can't pull myself away from. There's no pretension, no abuse (even in a supposedly humorous vein), and total support for newbies and experienced sailors alike. There are debates (I admit to participating in or even instigating some), and some discussions that get hijacked (ditto), but I see those as contributing to the robust community that is this unique group on the Web!
I sold my C-25 in 2006--it's hard to think of how long ago that was--but I have to admit to a mild addiction: I have to check in on this forum, if not daily, at least a few times a week. In part, I hope I can offer something to a questioner... Probably as often, I'm compelled to throw in a quip I hope carries on the spirit of this community. I also root for the association with my continued membership, and in large part, that's because this is a group that is salve for my still-wounded soul.
So as I give thanks for many things this coming week, I give thanks for all of you--especially for the volunteers who have made this happen and kept it going!
A joyous Thanksgiving to all!

You and several others are part of the glue that holds this Association together. You always provide EXCELLENT advice and opinions ... we'd be lost without you. Just try not to let the fumes from your current vessel interfere with your sage advice
HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone!

I second the THANKS to all who keep this site up and running and those who use it. The Catalina 25 is my first cabin sailboat and the wealth of information provided by this site was and is a big help.
Y'all have a great Thanksgiving.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. You will not get another chance.
Well said (as usual) Dave! I concur most heartily. Have a great Thanksgiving everyone.

I've got to say that I would never have come to Catalina without this group and its colorful and knowledgeable members and visitors. When my wife told me, "you're not getting any younger so when are you going to get the kind of boat you deserve?" I went directly to the swap meet on this forum and saw that Dave "Stinkpotter" was offering his baby. I was a day late and another buyer sealed the deal. When I later saw Passage in my Milford Harbor I told the owner that it looked like a beauty and best of luck, but if you ever want to sell her, here's my card... That next winter my phone rang, and wouldn't you know it? He was ready to sell. We did the deal with the whole kit and kaboodle of gear from Dave (minus the Origo curtain burner), and she was mine in spring 2007. I learned a great deal about fixed keel boats in that time period, having graduated from a 16 foot daysailer with a centerboard. And my wife was right, I did deserve it. Now almost 10 years later I thank Dave, and the Forum and its leadership and members for a good run so far. Happy Thanksgiving and holidays to come!

Dave: well said as usual -- so many of us owe you thanks for the shared knowledge, encouragement and camaraderie you have provided us all. As I look at this thread it is a virtual dream team of those who we all owe so much to, if not already would love to meet, break bread with, and discuss everything from grand schemes to the minutia of sailing the boats we love!

Thanks all... Although as some have figured out, I sometimes tell you more than I know. (But years ago I got into a debate here with a "physicist" who argued that water ballast could not provide any righting force unless it was raised above the outside water level... Gerry Douglass would have been amused, but not the Physics Department of that guy's alma mater.)

Dave: Finally got Compass Rose home from Bodega Bay last week. Sonoma county closed the launch ramp for rebuild and put me pulling out in cold Nov.! So, just now read your initial entry and all comments. Thanks for being my online friend and your help. Pacific ocean was rough all season long! My best, Chief

Thanks Chief: Years ago when we kept a 17' daysailer in a slip, I pulled her out onto a trailer in November in a snow squall and a 25 degree 15 mph cross-wind--had to get into the water and then take the mast down in the parking lot. You have to laugh when that's happening, or you'll break something!

Dave: I don't have to tell you that I was almost waist deep retrieving a wing keel with 20' of trailer extension! It is no problem in warmer times but 20+ winds, 12'seas outside the harbor and 50 degrees sure didn't help! Think I will just become a lake sailor (lake Oroville is only 3 miles from my house) as it was a bit much to deal with 8 hrs of intense labor to get her out and ready for the road. Our exchange here should let some of our members know that a tall mast wing keel is definitely not a weekender! My best to you and our members during our holidays! Chief
