Here is the one I built. It is steel tube with oak core. The space between the steam head and pulpit is very small, which prevented me from using a larger alum tube.

on the one hand 1) Pay for additional footage at the marina 2) Cannot get into the anchor locker without removing the bowsprit assembly 3) Increased risk of tripping going forward
on the other hand 1) Just wanted to see if it could be done 2) Get rich selling to C250 owners 3) Improve looks... 4) Not sure but having fun

I don't know about others but I only mount it when preparing to fly an asymmetrical spinnaker. It moves the kite out from the boat for better performance. I used an ATN tacker for awhile before the bowsprit. The bowsprit works much better.

Neat ! Any mods for increasing the size of the cockpit area (w/o buying another boat) ? (I am considering one of those mods I have seen from others that allowed for shortening the tiller when more guests come aboard.)
If it weren't for the popularity of wood tillers, I bet you could make an adjustable tiller, with an adjustment length of say 12-15". Tiller extensions are adjustable, why not the tiller itself?

I recall a posting eons ago that had photos of a tiller mod allowing the tiller to be shortened when having company on board and then adjusted to full length when not cramped in the cockpit. I'll check the archives.
The tiller I'm using on my boat came from This Side Up and it's somewhat shorter than a stock tiller. Really makes a difference when tacking and when at the dock. It also came with an adjustable tiller extension which is handy when you want to move forward to balance the boat for maximum speed.
