So the Martin County police were called when a passerby noticed a couple in trouble on their boat at anchor off of Palm Beach. CBS News reported that the police went out into the rough surf to save the couple from their pitching sailboat and managed to rescue the boaters. Later they reported the boaters safe and sound on dry (ish) land. No update on the boat though... What were they thinking!?!?!?

Did you see the footage of the boaters that pulled their boats into the lee sides of the mangroves on the West Coast hoping for the best?
They are currently experiencing 75+ winds.

Even if the mangroves would shield the boat for awhile, once the storm's center of circulation moves north, the wind will back around and push them right up on top of the mangroves.
In Tampa, the easterly winds blew most of the water out of Tampa Bay. So much so that several manatees were stranded in the mud and rescuers had to transport them further out into the bay.

...and the easterly hurricane-force winds hadn't reached Tampa as of 8pm EDT. The "blow-out" will be replaced by a huge surge shortly after 2am. I have relatives there who have gathered with their nearby family in a concrete-walled home, hoping they have something to go home to.
