Hi, I am happy to say that the delivery voyage is safely behind us. The day was overcast, with wind under 5 kts and seas 3 to 5. We had some sun and a little wind later just as we neared Dana Point. It was a 6 hour day of motoring on glassy seas with fairly large swells running on the starboard quarter and fully astern later in the day. We kept the main up all day and sheeted mostly flat and got a push of maybe a knot or two from it. We probably could have sailed the last mile or two but after 6 hours we really wanted to get in, tied up and back on the freeway for Long Beach, then onto the drive home to San Diego (it was a long day).

What surprised me (as a former stinkpotter) was watching a 6 foot swell rise up behind us or even on the beam and then roll right under us without really being able to feel it aboard. Those seas would have rolled and pitched my power boat much worse. It was good to have them behind us most of the day.

The tiller pilot did all the work and I sat or stood in the cockpit fishing, reading "The Log", checking the GPS once per hour, and talking all day. We saw nothing but birds and waves until we were almost to Dana Point. Today, every muscle in my body is tired and sore!

I was real nervous putting the boat in the slip - the fairway seemed so narrow and it really takes some getting used to operating the outboard, looking behind you, and the tiller, and coordinating everything when the controls aren't right there. It takes a long time to slow the boat when you shift into reverse! But I put her in the slip first try and didn't hit anything, nor did my crew have to make a wild leap for the dock. Good thing the Cat 25 can turn so sharply and retains steerage even at a dead slow speed less than 0.5 knots.

We have a lot of work to do and need to get some sailing practice in. We are planning to take the family to Catalina during Spring Break.

Any one who wants to sail to one of the primitive boat-in camping sites (Rippers, Lava Wall, etc.) April 17 - 20 AND share the place with 2 teenage girls and 2 little dogs, please let me know!

Sounds like a perfect day of motor-sailing to me... and a good start to a new relationship !

If it weren't a 700 mile drive, I might take you up on that Catalina trip. Still a bit cold and rainy for camping here in the NW...

Congratulations on a successful delivery!

We made it out for a couple hours yesterday afternoon after the fog/haze lifted. We had better wind a little farther north from you, especially near LA Light. Lots more boat traffic too, including many whale watching boats and a couple big square-riggers (a beautiful sight).

Easter weekend at Catalina might be tough for me. However, we have penciled in Apr. 11-13 for a trip to White's.

By the way, where is "Lava Wall"?

Good to see you living the dream and not visa versa. Your boat looks very nice. I enjoyed mine for years before moving up. Only word of advise is watch your weather and reef early. You will realy enjoy the boat they are wonderfull. Oh you might want to have a look at the fresh water wash/rinse set up I did on my honda. Its way near the bottom of the C25 tech section.

Lava Wall is near Rippers close enough to N33 25 W118 25 and 5 miles from the isthmus (on the way to Avalon).
