4 year ago we installed a marine radio/CD player w/ a detachable faceplate on Blown Away (inside). We never detach the faceplate, but last year the buttons started working wrong - when we push the button to lower the volume it changes the station. Its like the slot the volume down button should be hitting is hitting the station down slot. We've pulled the faceplate off & make sure its installed correctly several times & we still have this problem. VERY ANNOYING! <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

Anyone had a similar problem? Solution? Are we doomed to paying for a new stereo just because of the volume adjustment? HELP!

Hi Cathy,

I installed a new stereo not long ago, and it is built like yours ... i.e. it has a detachable faceplate. I've turned it on a couple of times only to find out it had some electrical gremlins running around inside.

My unit has a very small reset button hidden behind the removable faceplate. Pressing the reset button seems to have gotten rid of the gremlins ... if you have a button like that, I'd give it a try.

You'll need a hat pin, unbent paper clip, or similar instrument to depress the button. Simply depress the button for two or three seconds while the unit is powered up, and it resets the circuitry logic (or some other magic that is well beyond my electrical understanding).

Sounds like moisture behind the face-plate or in the face-plate. The guys at the detail shop did this to my pick-up when they put to much water or whatever above the radio and shorted ererything out. It went crazy like yours is doing. Pulled it out and took it to repair shop and they had it fixed no time at all.

I never heard of a detail shop for sailboats. Wish we had one.

I agree w/ Buzz, I had a similar problem. The reset button is behind the faceplate.


What caused my flare-up was pushing a few buttons at the same time by mistake.
