Whoooaaaa....server unavailable for darn near 24 hours.....talking about withdrawl........

With the learning curve about vertical, I have discovered, as most of you probably know, that the reason the WB comes with a 110 jib is that anything over about 117 will hit the spreaders when sheated in, as the spreaders on the WB as much further out than on the wing, a result of the basic design differences down lower in the boat.
I spoke to Gary Swenson at Ullman (Caytalina's royal sailmakers) who pitched the reacher/drifter he's developed for the WB. 7+BU's, including all the running standing and sitting rigging. He claims that in light air this will go to windward.....I"m sure there's an extended thread or threads on this very subjct somewhere on this forum....links any one? Comments?

Along those lines, If I work up the energy to drive to Lake Wawasee for the national meet, it seems, after reading the race notices, that I would be competing against wings with 155's......

Finally, in the series "Reducing MUMD-times" I found a website with some really cool hardware, specifically speedy cotter pins, check it out.....

http://www.pivotpins.com/catalog/catidx.html

I'll be calling them Monday to buy some samples.....

There weren't very many of these c250 made with the 155% and the tall rig. They were only available in the wk model. The 155% Ullman drifter is not "an approved" sail for the nationals.

My only hope is that we get enough boats just to have the regatta. My plans are made we are going somewhere at that time race or no race.
The c250 is getting close to hull #700 if ONLY 1% of those boats made come to Nationals we will have 7 boats. The c25 have over 6000 boats made. It would be great to JUST GET 1/4% of the boats that would be 15 boats.

I guess we can only hope

Here are some links about the 155% drifter Check out Arlyn's web site.

Bryan, Arlyn,

Thanks for the good info. After using yours do you find that it will go to windward with the tack pulled down, and, Arlyn says that the sail is too light for a pole, (how about with a topping lift???)does it stay full going dead down wind, and, do you wing it out opposite the main, or does it somehow stay full behind (around?) the main? Finally, I don't at this time have any coaming mounted hardware. How much force are we talking here? The evil empire (page 896 of the big book) sells some very nice cleats that would mount right above the block on the stern pulpit, I figure that would work for light air, at the upper reach of the spectrum I could somehow work my way over to the cabintop winch. Or maybe a dinghy sized ratchet block on the stern pulpit would be the answer......

Oscar, The drifter will fill and stay in good shape with very light air. It can be hauled within an inch or so of the spreaders and work to weather quite well. Using a pendant on the tack... the luff is tensioned for the point of sail. Off wind I may have it out 30 inches while hardened to weather. Yes... my first thoughts were to go with small ratchet blocks. They should work fine.

Arlyn,

I think I'm sold...though I would like to find a deal on one......I also visited your mods/tips pages, good stuff, now my list is even longer..........the riding sail/awning sounds like a must have...... Now I also know where the water in the v-birth sitting in the driveway comes from......I had the bow cranked way up to keep the boat dry...HAH!
