April Bahamas cruise plans went south

Lin and my plans for the Bimini - Berry Island cruise had to be canceled. Lin's mom recently fractured her leg just below her hip when the neighbors dog knocked her down while she was getting the paper.

It is not healing well and the orthopedic doctor wanted to do surgery but she is not a candidate due to heart condition. Her blood pressure was 214/108 on thursday confirmed with three takings at the doctors office. She has been ordered to bed... to ensure that no further fracturing occurs and to rest to reduce blood pressure. They said that her normally high pressure was driven even higher by the pain.

At any rate, Lin cannot go... and a check with my son found him too busy with work to go... so I decided rather than go alone or with new crew... I would roll my time and our cruising kitty over to our planned Great Lakes cruise in July / August. We hope to make that cruise now 4-5 weeks long.

Maybe the gulf stream crossing next year.

The great dissapointment is only made bearable by the thought of escaping the Texas heat for five weeks of North Channel Cruising.

Arlyn,

I'm sorry to hear about your mother-in-laws fall and broken leg and the resulting complications. I will pray for her recovery, and ask the church I serve to pray for her as well.

Hi Arlyn,

Sorry to hear of your mominlaw's problem. Amy's mom did the same thing last Feb. It's costly for all involved. The healing is slow and ancillary problems many. I wish her well.

With regards to your project the expression," people make plans and the GODS smile", seems appropriate.

Sorry to hear about your mother in law Arlyn. I took a week off from teaching in January to fly to New Mexico and care for my mom following cancer surgery. When a family member needs you that becomes a priority. My mom and I had a great week together and the reason I mention it is that she has a long experience cruising the North Channel and it was great re-living her many cruises with my dad. Dad died ten years ago and I think my mom likes the fact that I have taken up cruising in a big way especially where she and my father spent the best days of their marriage.

Putting the cruising kitty towards the summer cruise sounds good. If you are coming up to the North Channel again let me know and perhaps we could put together an impromptu Catalina rendezvous. Incedentially, because of an injury while on ski patrol this winter I am having surgery on my right knee this Thursday. Hope to be recovered in time for spring fitting out. We are still having some snow here in Ohio so boat work is being done in bits.

Thanks all for warm thoughts and prayers. Yes... family are priority when they are in need.

Yeah Ben... I was looking forward greatly to the Bimini cruise... we will try to do next year.

John... we still have the North Channel in our plans for the summer. Yes, an impromptu rendezvous would be great. I have seen several C25's there while cruising. We hope to cruise the middle of July to the middle of August.

I will be at Neebish by around July 1. I have a new dock going in and it's completion is promised for the end of June. I hope to be on my way to Baie Fine soon after that. By mid July I should be back at home base on Neebish. You might enjoy cruising the west end of the N.C. The St Joseph Channel and Wilson's channel are beautiful. The bridge from the mainland with a 38' clearance makes the town of Richard's Landing open from the west, to boats not bigger than the C25 and the C250.
It's a very pretty town with a couple restaurants and some good art and craft stores, plenty of Ice, a grocery and a provincal liquor store. Stay in touch. I look forward to meeting you.

John, Have cruised a little of the west end. Entered from Huron at DeTour, to Harbor Island, north to Milford Haven, on to Thessalon (checked into customs), and then worked east on coast.

Didn't enter the St Marys system. Had planned an evening anchorage at East Grant Island...but with about 15-20 blowing from the west it didn't look friendly and we moved on to Blind River. With extra time this year... we may take your advice and explore St Marys a bit.

I'll let you know how to reach us when the time is right. I'm sort of preoccupied with the knee surgery on Thursday. I have to prepare lesson plans for my substitute, and hope that she teaches what I need covered. I'm pretty sure the recovery time will be short but being 50 is different than being 20 and I'm told that we older birds don't recover as fast. I plan on getting into the physical therapy right away, and on the bike as soon as the surgeon will allow.
