I was in San Diego all last week for some Navy training, and fell in love with the place. I don't think I'd be able to keep my mind on working with the scenery all around. Here is the view from the Spawar cafeteria:

I really wanted to get out on that water and go sailing. My last day there I had some time off and went to the Navy Sailing Center to rent one of their fleet of 250s. Unfortunately I forgot my qualification card.<img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> They wouldn't rent me a boat without it. So I stood on the bank and watched all the boats going in and out on Friday afternoon:

I hope I can out there again soon, and next time I'll remember my card!

There's a commercial rental place that rents 20-something footers (forgot which flavor) at the bottom of the gas light district.....although it's probably more $$$ than the Navy Base........

Oscar/Tray,

I've rented from that same place by the Marriott/Gaslamp. You're right about the cost. A 22 Capri runs $40/hour. I've usually had several people to split the cost with so it's really not too bad. Sailing in San Diego Bay is pretty much worth any price! There is another place over on Mission Bay, by Sea World, which also rents and they are a lot cheaper. However, Mission Bay is nothing when compared to SD Bay.
