Hi Gang,

Out of courtesy, I'm not going to name names or places, but I want to share this with yaw'l.

The Gentleman I sold my trailer to is a direct decendent of Joshua Slocum.

How cool is that <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>. He and his wife were here yesterday and we had a very nice visit.

He baited me, saying, I'm related to the "guy" who first sailed sigle-handed around the world.

I said, "you mean Joshua".<img src=icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

He said, Yes. Then he gave me a nice compliment, saying, "I know who the real sailors are if they answer the way you did."<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

Well, how about that. I don't know if Lake Allatoona makes me a real sailor but he sure was nice to visit with.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Was his name Scott Slocum? I met this fella in dallas when a friend was working at his company, Superior Graphics. Same guy? I know he was a sailor, did he say where and what he sailed?

Hi Patrick,

Joshua is his Great Great Grandfather.

Through lineage his name is not Slocum.

While on the subject of famous folk - in 1973 I played a round of golf in Kauai with Paul Sperry, the inventor of the "topsider deck shoe". He was 79 at the time.
