Just purchased an 1981 Catalina 25 last weekend. Former owner provided a wealth of information for my questions, but could not answer this one.
Under the stove there is a drawer. Below this drawer is a hinged panel that swings down. Inside this compartment is a clear piping/tubing (between 1/2 and 1") and a shut off valve. One end seems to head back toward the cockpit, other end unsure.
<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote>It's a drain for the sink. With the valve lever in line with the hose it's open<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>
Unless of course its the old gate valve, then operate it like your outdoor faucet.
All the way counter clockwise, open....all the way clockwise closed.
Your PO didn't know about his sink and ice box drains? That makes him a true DPO... Check that the hoses are double-clamped with stainless hose clamps. Then describe to us the fitting that goes through the hull under the shutoff--both the inside and outside views. We may have some bad news for you. <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Okay Tom, are you ready? Raise your beverage hand and listen up!

Thank you all for your reponses and welcome to Catalina ownership! Had about 7 posts to my question in less than two hours.
Dave,
The valve is a "gate" valve looking like the water faucet outside my house. Forgot to look last night, but I think outside the boat, it looks like a hole in the side of the boat.
