guy,

It's my understanding that the safe service life of stainless steel standing rigging is between about 5 and 10 years. Longer for #316 alloy, less for #302/304. Longer in fresh water and northern climates, less in saltwater and southern climates.

It will probably cost you about $50.00 dollars more than sending it out, but you will have a guarantee be

I'm curious about this age thing on standing rigging. Are we talking about the total chronological age or the total time spent supporting the mast either at rest or under sail load. As near as I can figure my "79 std rig has spent about 7 3/4 to 8 years

Guy,

We replaced the rigging on the was this past season without any problem. We had a set made at our local sailmaker's (SOBSTAD). All we needed to do was bring in the old stuff and they replaced it with top of the line wire and nice open turnbuckle

I also got the replacement set from Catalina Direct and am very pleased with the quality, fit and their service. I didn't have to send in my old shrouds.
