Installing a marine head in my C250 using a .75" and a 1.5" Marelon thru-hull with marelon seacocks. There is just enough room under the cover in the forward part of the aft berth to fit. Is this an OK location?? This leaves about 16" between the inlet and the outlet. Is this enough spacing between them? I planed on fiberglassing a 5/8ths plywood mounting pad in the bottom of the hull. Tee-nuts would be installed in the bottom of the plywood prior to fiberglass to secure the flanged seacock to the pad without penetrating the hull. The thru-hull fitting has a nut that doesn't make sense to use with the flanged seacock. If I did this I would have to put some pretty hefty spacers under the flange bolts to keep the strain off the thru-hull. Do I need this since I'm securing the seacock direcly to the thru-hull? Would I put the thru-hull in with 5200 on it, screw the seacock on till firmly seated on the mounting pad then bolt the seacock to the pad?
Also I would suggest that you use 4200, or another equivalent polysulfide sealant, instead of 5200. 5200 is an adhesive and is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to remove. Really a polysulfide sealant is a better choice for this application. The technique that I have found that works best for me is to tape around the area with blue masking tape then use the item that is being sealed as a guide to cut the tape to fit. Apply the sealant and hand tighten the item so that the sealant is squeezed out all around the perimeter. Remove the excess sealant with the tape and allow the sealant to dry overnight. Then finish tightening the item. This way you don't squeeze out all the sealant when you tighten the mounts.
I know, I know... you don't expect to ever remove the seacock, however, the 4200 has the same expected life span as the 5200, 20 + years, and you never know, someday you might be the "DPO" that is cussed for days for using a bonding agent as a sealant!
