I want to attach some things to the wall seperating the head from the sitting area. The one the table folds up against. I have a '89 -'90.
I'm wondering, what's in that wall? Do I use wood or metal screws. Should I stay away from a particular area. I may attach someting to the other side of the door opening also.
I am not sure which interior you have, your description makes it sound like you are referring to the bulkhead, however the dinette interior's table attaches to the port wall of the cabin.
Other than the few dead bodies, not much else is in there. The bulkhead is all wood, I would thusly use wood screws for that. The port wall, below the pin rail is hollow after about a 1/4 inch of fiberglass and gelcoat. Depending on what you are attaching, I would most likely use screws for this as well.
'Sounds to me like you're talking about the bulkhead, and you have a "traditional" interior. I have the "original traditional" or what is also called the "L-shaped dinette." I think the bulkheads are the same regardless of the cabin layout, but I'm not sure ... I don't want to give you a bum steer.
Anyway, in my boat the bulkhead is simply a piece of teak veneer plywood. I can't remember the exact thickness, but I think it is about 3/4 inch thick. I have stuff screwed to both sides of the port bulkhead (clock, weather instruments, mirror, etc.), and I've got stuff screwed to the aft side of the starboard bulkhead (teak book holder). I'm not aware of any places to avoid ... just make sure the screws you use aren't too long, or they'll stick out the other side. BTW, I used all wood screws ... make sure they're stainless steel, or you'll regret it later ... you can also use the stainless steel finishing washers with each screw to give it a nice look.
'Hope that helps ... let us know how your project turns out ... good luck!
Mine is the original version also. The bulkhead is plywood with teak veneer. I also just use 1/2" wood screws for attaching barometer etc. john on ms achsa 1977 hull #77
