Wanted to share with you my experience with a new upgrade. I ordered a mainsail from CD (made by Ullman), loose footed, full batten with insignia, numbers and a lot of other options for $739. I've researched various suppliers and options and it was by far the best deal I found. Most other vendors were in the $1K region for what I wanted.
It arrived a couple of days ago and IT IS beautiful! I got it installed yesterday and took her out for a spin. I only had an average 5 knot breeze, but she took off like a jack rabbit. I thought I had gotten on somebody else's boat! She sails better, tacks better and most importantly she looks better. If any of you guys are considering a new main, I'd' highly recommend it.
On the downside, when I first got her out, the top batten, and part of the surrounding sail, was hitting the back stay when I tacked. I lowered the boom about 2-3 inches, which is all I had left, and the batten clears just fine. It's also harder to flake which is not a fair statement, since my other main was 18 years old, blown out and had the texture of underwear.
I had Ullman sails on my previous C-22 and now have their main, 150 and 110 roller furling....I think they look good and sail great, too!! I have always called Gary Swenson at Ullman Sails, Ventura, direct during the winter slow months and can get a better deal than during their busy spring/summer months. Happy sailing
