I just bought a "83 TR/FK, traditional cabin. On starboard seat, under cushion there is shallow tray on aft end but i didn't see any opening for the forward part of seat. Seems like this would be a good storage area. Top of seat is wood with screws in it. Has anyone cut into this space to make a storage area out of it ??
On my boat, that's where the fresh water holding tank is. You are talking about the inside starboard settee? I'd remove the screws holding the wood piece and see what's under it before cutting into the fiberglass panel.
Bob - I also have an '83 TR/FK traditional model. As everyone has said, that is the water tank under there. I took the tank out a few months ago for a cleaning (cleaned out all the green wildlife living in the tank and hoses). At least the water in the tank is clean enough to wash dishes in now. Congratulations on a great boat Bruce S/V BellaSera '83 TR/FK #3538
