i just completed a double bed for the solon (saloon). used 5/8" plywood finished on both sides. cut three pieces 15" wide and 6' long and one piece 15" wide and 5 1/2' long (placed this piece forward towards bow). used 1 1/4" dowels for legs and attached them to the bottom of the plywood with leg plates (these unscrew for storage). the left over plywood i cut 5'long and 3" wide and doubled them up and screwed them together. these i lay alongside the teak trim to keep the plywood above the trim so not to scratch it. our areo bed fits perfectly on the new frame. leaving today for a weeks cruise on the chesapeake. i'll let you know how it works out.
So the plywood goes over the teak trim and rests on the glass/ covers? Let me know how this works out. I've been instructed by the fleet commander to make these modifications prior to our two week cruise in August.
