Hi all,

I just got back from spending a month sailing my 1979 Catalina 25 (swing keel) from Port Canaveral, FL to the Abacos in the Bahamas. It was a great adventure, and I had a fantastic time. The boat performed pretty much flawlessly, and there were no disasters. I would do it again. If you have any questions about the trip, boat preparation, what worked, what I'd do differently, planning, etc. feel free to ask. If there appears to be interest, I may try to write up some sort of travel log, and maybe a F.A.Q. of some sort.

P.S. Oops, forgot to mention what I ment by "Two C-25s in Abacos, Bahamas". There was another Catalina 25 there, "So Far". I think there were a couple and maybe a dog on board. I went alone, but came back with a kitten.

Leon,

Sounds like an excellent trip, I'm green <img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle> with envy!

How about writing an article about your experiences on your trip and submitting it for the next issue of the Mainsheet?

It would really give me something to look forward to in the next issue.

Wow Leon,

You are not gonna believe this.

I saw a Catalina 25 named "so far" here in Cartersville, GA at a gas station. It was a swinger. I think their van was being worked on.

We are right off of I-75. Maybe they were heading south then. It's was a couple of month ago.

I remember the name because I tried to find the boat on the owners list here on the web.

Anyway, it sounds like you had a great trip. Please post some pics.

Thanks,

Paul

Where in the abacos did you go? I spent most of my childhood summers (a couple of months each year) in the bahamas, mostly in Hopetown and Marsh Habour, but we ventured to walkers cay, green turtle cay, treasure cay and surrounding areas as well as bimini and cat cay (one of my favs!). Nice to hear about a swinger doing it, it's encouraging to me for the future when I get a trailer and brave crew mate (woman) to do this. I'd love to hear an account as well. I'd like to know about the crossing and how you managed it. Thanks for telling us about this, it's exciting!
