Orion's keel winch has a small wedge between the upper metal surface of the winch and the lower wood surface of the top step. This appears to pitch the axis of the spindle slightly down (forward) and I think (or guess) the purpose is to create a fair lead for the turning ball wire as it spools onto the winch when the keel is raised. Does anyone else have such a wedge? It seems to be original, or at least rather old. I am concerned because a number of persons have reported that when they got a new winch from Cat. Direct, it was slightly different in configuration from their original. Help, bretheren, ron srsk #2343
hey, i am still mid-haul out, and recently replaced my old winch with a brand new one from catalina. I decided to leave the wedge and re-install it on the new winch. The new one was identical in configuration as the old one i removed. no problems.. job done.
Thanks, guys, and ---would you believe---I just took another look, and the wedge pitches the axis the OPPOSITE of my first post, all other information the same. I guess dyslexia goes with C>R>S> disease, ron srsk #2343 Orion SW FL
