I have noticed barrient winches on several pictures of the boats in this forum. I have two on the cabin top that I can't figure out how to keep them from pulling up. I have gotten the schematic and do not seem to be missing any locking rings, or anything as simple as that. Any of you with similar experiences? thanks dan86

The entire body comes up when a load is placed on it. (actually occurs on both cabin top winches. I have come close to loosing the body before I noted that it was lifting. Dan

Not sure I'm fully grasping your problem yet.

The winches are through-bolted to the cabin top.
Are the bolts loose or the holes wallowed out ?

I googled on Barient Winches... here's a few links that might be useful.

This one, Ericson Yachts has downloadable Barient winch manuals !

Dan - are you sure that you have circlips on the top of the winches? Missing these is the only way I can imagine that the body can rise up.

You'll have to pardon my lack of winch nomenclature, but the actual interior portion of the winch that is bolted to the cabin top stays on deck, the outside cylindar raises up. I have looked extensively and do not think I am missing the retaining ring at the top, but could be wrong. Dan

That's the "Spool" or "Drum" that is lifting then... the winch body is what's bolted to the deck. The manuals posted on the Ericson site may be what you need.

What model is your winch ?
