I went to the boat yesterday for a short sail and when I got back I found about a gallon of water in the bilge and below the port side settee. It had been there for a while because I noticed a smell from some signal flares the were wet. I traced evey place that I can think of but I could not find anything. I thought may be I over filled the tank when I last filled it. Is there a vent on the tank that may have allowed the spill. All the hoses seem to be fine and I checked the thru hull for the knot meter. Has anyone had an over fill problem? Robert Escape C250WB #615
If you inadvertantly left the ballast valve open... when heeling slightly, water will leak into the bilge from around the valve shaft rod. Check out this page
Robert; I was getting water in the port compartment at the end of last season. I traced it to a broken through hull fitting for the chane locker drain line. I raplaced the fitting and all is dry again. Good sailing Bill c250 wb Serendipity
I was getting a litle wet in the bilge and just happened to be in the cabin when it was raining and noticed small drops running down the support to the port side chsin plate that the port shrouds connect to, I re-beded the chain plate and the bilge has been dry ever since, steve
My water hose that fills the water tank sprung a leak (while under warranty)on the inside of cabin right below the chain locker. The mechanic who repaired the hose stated this is the 3rd one he replaced on 250 models. Although it was only a pin hole is sure permitted quite a bit of water to get into the port side settee.
I guess I will add my 3 cents here. I have had three leaks over the time I have had my boat. The first and most troublesome was the leak from the balast tank which, after much searching and great info from this group, was found to be caused by a misaligned through bolt for the balast tank valve. I believe there is still a topic on that, and there should be a tech tip if there isnt one yet.
There is a small leak coming from the vent on the stern for the gas cylinder locker. It leaks into the battery area behind the bulkhead. I have not had a chance to 1. reseal the vent, and 2. use the tech tip for opening up a drain hole to the bilge. Those are projects for next week if I get the ball valve replaced. (see below)
My latest leak is from a cracked ball valve under the sink in the head. All water poured into the fresh water tank that was above the water line for the sink, went right into the bilge. I knew it wasnt the balast because it had no smell of lake water.
So far, I have not had any leak from the coaming boxes, and hope I dont have to address that issue.
