Greetings, all. I'm getting ready to drop my boat in in a few weeks. Does anyone know if the thru-hull fittings contain any gaskets or seals that might dry out or rot if the boat has been out of the water for four years? Or are they like the ones on the stern for the bilge pumps? Those, I just took apart and re-sealed with poly-sulfide. Stephen Z on "Little Wing"
If your through hulls are original then they would be the (volcano)or glassed in type. A bronze pipe glassed into the hull. Threaded on the inboard side with a maralon ball valve. No seals to dry out. You might want to inspect any none factory add on fittings like depth sounder and knott meter.
When I replaced my to-hulls with thru-hulls this year, I noticed my worm clamps at the sea cocks were looser than I wanted them to be. Kind of alarming when you think what could happen if those hoses came off with your valves open. I think the pliable hose material had simply softened with summer heat. Double clamp all connections and check and retighten clamps as needed. Good luck. Todd Frye
