Just wondering if there was an effective way to "lock" the hatch and slat boards from the inside when overnighting? My guess is that I might rest better knowing the bad guys had to stay outside the boat, just in case!<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Thank you.
I've thought about that too. I wonder if a couple of the simple sliding bolt locks like you see on old screen doors might work. Maybe one on each side of the top hatch board, sliding into a drilled hole in the vertical trim on each side. That should secure the top board, which should hold the others in place.

Get a latch just like the one that's on the outside of the hatch. Put it on the inside, but don't lock it. Remember, you want to able to open the hatch ad get out quick if there's a problem. Put a pin through the interior latch. Better yet, a pin with a foot long pendant you could tug on to release the hatch.
Actually, barrel bolts are a good idea on the hatchboards for sailing in stormy conditions too. If the hatchboards are secured in place with the barrel bolt, they cannot fall out in a broach or if you get pooped.
