Just met with the folks from Oregon (and there are also five boats from California!) at Cap Sante Marina in Anacortes and was able to secure for them the Weatherly Guide and Washburn Tables at Anacortes Yachts Charters (about fifteen dollars cheaper than at West Marine-The Evil Empire!!)
If you folks need any help this summer, please be sure to call me at 360-679-2300. If the phone does not answer, I am somewhere out on the water enjoying the life of retirement!
This week, the tides are really doing strange things, and the currents are really nasty out in the San Juans. Hopefully, in another week, things will be better-and not as foggy in the mornings!
Hi Ken. Good to see you drop by the board and share your wisdom. We will be heading north on Aug 8th. Kingston or Everett area will be our first stop. On to Coronet bay for the Latitudes and Attitudes Northwest party and then who knows from there. No firm plans other than Stewart Island on the 16th for two or three days. Presently just getting everything ready for the trip. This year has been good so far with regards to sailing. Lots of good wind in the south sound. We are talking 15 to 30. Wish it would change direction for the trip though. Its from the north and as always the tide sucks to. See you soon. Looking forward to catching up.
Doug! Here I am sweating and grunting, taking all my exterior teak off, scraping the goop under it, sanding it all down to get the PO's finish off, applying Cetol, not sailing, and you post another wonderful picture of your work of art from Carl Alberg... ENOUGH ALREADY! I passed up a beautiful Cape Dory 26 (also an Alberg design) and bought the C-25 because the CD wouldn't be able to maneuver into our ridiculous slip. The C-25 is a fine boat, but PULEEEASE!!!

Dave,
Why didn't you remove the teak over the winter and refinish it then instead of doing it now during prime sailing time?
If he had weather like we had around here, he was looking at his boat through horizontal rain... or perhaps it was only visible as a large, oddly-shaped snowdrift.

Weatherly guide and washburn tables sound really good as all the Capt. Jacks tables for 2003 seem to be gone. bought one of those a couple of years ago, turns out to be a bummer. The rest of the Oregon people will be arriving July 25th, Are you available for a morning meeting at the bowling alley? We plan to go to Friday harbor, Stuart Island, SidneySpit,Maple Bay, Pirates Cove, and others like that this year. DRAGON TAIL, dba LEMATIKE is doing just fine, and taking great care of her new family. She got a snap furl and new upholistry for the trip this year. I've got your phone number, will be in the area for about 2 weeks hope to see you folks.
The folks in Oregon told me all about "your" boat, and we would love to see the new additions you have done on it! Unfortunately, we will be heading out on Thursday, the 24th to Port Townsend for their annual Jazz Festival that lasts the weekend! If we do not head south, we should be back either Monday or Tuesday!
How about you folks joining us there?!!? Friday afternoon has a major concert at the pavilion and one Saturday evening. All the clubs, bars, eateries, etc. all around the town have evening jazz for the price of one ticket. Should be a hoot!!
Place to stay is at the marina just south of the ferry and it is huge! The one north of the ferry is booked with a Hunter group for the weekend. It is first come first served, but there should not be a problem in getting a slip.
As far as Captain Jack's, they are still being printed, and I found one in Campell River, BC. Next year, I am going to call them direct for their annual insert, as I found them to be the best for overall ease of use!
If you don't make to Port Townsend, please give us a call when you get back. We owe you breakfast!!
As "tour leader" of the "Portland boats", Encore! just splashed last night back in the Columbia after an 8 day "mini-flotilla" cruise of 3 C25s and one very packed C22. We couldn't get across the border into Canada, because one boat had a German/naturalized citizen who forgot his passport so we were limited to the San Juans proper.
Terry, you are so welcome to my copy of Washburn's Current Atlas. After 3 weeks total up north, I am done with them for this year. There are exceptions to the atlas, of course, with back-eddies, etc, but we found ourselves doing 9+ knots on the GPS several times by using the currents. Let me know and the Washburn tables are yours for you trip. More later. Several boats had digital cameras and may post some pics. I hope so.
