Awhile back I posted a message on the C250 board about a sticky roller furler. The boat, though new to me, was a 2002 model and barely a year old.

I managed to fix the problem doing nothing else but thoroughly lubricating the drum at the top of the furler with sailing lube.

Works fine now, but leads me to a more basic question.

What equipment on my boat needs consistent lubrication? And how often should this be done?

In asking this, I'm asking about sailing related equipment, rather than the outboard which has it's own independent requirements.

What do other folks use as a rule of thumb?

Winches every few years or so--check the manufacturer's instructions for the lube to use. Naturally, Lewmar makes their own...

For those of us with outboard brackets (not you), the pivot points are important (at least annually). I can't think of much else besides the engine... My roller furler, with Torlon bearings, is not supposed to be lubed--just flushed with water now and then. (The rain will have to take care of the upper swivel.)

I've heard flushing mineral oil into a marine head every once in a while will keep the internal stuff lubricated.
