Got word form the dealer that I could have the Tohatsu 9.8, 25 inch shaft with either remote or tiller. Both have electric start and 80 watt alternator. Okay all C250 owners what do I do now? Need some big time help here since the mounting area is small and I do not know the length of the tiller on the engine. The dealer offered to put a mount bracket on the boat, but I do not want anymore weight further aft than necessary. By the way the price on this engine is $2250. Not to bad huh!!

Frog,

I have a Evinrude 9.9 4 stroke w electric start and the "tiller" and I'm still able to turn the motor side to side with the "tiller" tilted partly up enough to assist maneuvering -- especially handy going backwards. I also have wheel steering, though, which may make handling rotating the motor and the rudder at the same time a little easier. I've gotten used to it, but there are times when shifting gears, working the throttle, and steering the boat gets a little out of synch. The only way out of this would be to go to a remote control -- in my case on the wheel pedestal -- combined with Arlyn's soft link to turn the motor. Others in this forum seem to have this sort of system in place and do not have the cables prevent turning the motor. And if the General needs to pilot the boat on occaision (as "She who must be obeyed" on my craft does), you're going to need to make it as easy as possible.

I bought the boat as a package with the motor installed by my dealer, but it doesn't look like any special brackets or extensions were required.
