Has anyone found their jib and mainsail halyard lines supplied by Catalina to be too small for the clutches? Even if I use my winches to get my main up to a perfect shape, I end up getting about 4" of slip from the clutch when I remove the halyard from the winch. Bill
I have exactly the same problem. I added a stanction cleat but as you said the main always slips down 2"-6". I have been so far this season dedicating one of my winches to the main halyard. I have talked to Frank Butler about it and the issue is not yet resolved. Do you have single clutches or double? The main halyard supplied by my dealer is exactly per Catalina specs. I am suspecting clutches from C270 or 28 were used instead of c250's.
I will probably call Catalina again today and will let you know if anything got resolved.
What year is your boat? My boat is a 2000 I don't have and problem with slippage. The hard plastic part (I don't know the proper name) that grabs the halyard will wear out over time. My boat came with spare plastic parts and I sure you can order more. 5/16” halyards are what came with the boat. I think that is standard on all the c250.
I've also experienced this same problem. The jib sheets fit nice and snug into the "plastic part" (which, I believe, according to the Lewmar maunual are is a "self-tailing crown") but the halyards do not. According to the Lewmar manual, the 16ST winches on the 250 are designed for lines from 5/16" to 1/2". However, looks like the 5/16" supplied with the boat doesn't quite snub into the crown too well.

Bryan, I have a 2003 250WB hull#655. May was her first month ever in the water so I can't imagine anything being worn out! We will have to see whether Ray has any luck with Frank Butler.

If it wasn't brand new I would have also thought of wear Bryan, thanks for the input.
I did talk with Frank today (I am always amazed that Frank fields the problems himself)he said a new correctly sized clutch block is on it's way. All I have to do is change it and send the old one back. I'll keep you posted Bill.
Hmmm, Lady Kay is one of the last WB's with the Halyards on the mast. Swiveled sheaves with cam cleats. Halfway into a good sail in a stiff breeze (read: tight main halyard) DZZZZZJOOOOOIIINGGGG......she slipped through the cleat......
Has happened again since. I've been leading it back up to the reefing cleat...which creates problems when reefing.
Since I'm going to modify and lead the lines aft I don't feel like getting into this one with Frank.....
I notice at the Denver boat show in January that the clutches on the 2003 c250 are a different brand than the ones on my 2000. Wondering if the slipping problem started when the change in manufacture took place.

I use my Lewmar 16st winches with my drifter and it has 1/4" sheets, have not had any problem with slipping on the self tailers with those either.
