Depends on what you mean by 'Northern California'...

We have an Englund Marine up here in Eureka... They have other stores in Oregon and (I think) Washington.. Much smaller outfit than West Marine. Pretty competitive on price and nice folks at this store.

For sailing gear(line, autopilots, blocks,...etc), I saved a bundle at SailNet.

http://www.sailnet.com/

Garhauer has very reasonable prices for sailing gear, also.

Very good. I'll try sailnet. I'm located near the central valley, and the closest marine outfit is West Marine in Stockton. Sailnet may be more convenient and I can't imagine more expensive :)

Thanks,

Mark

Like everything else in life, the cost usually depends on the amount of effort you put in to finding the best deal.

There is a balance between convenience and stock-on-hand, compared to finding the best price on any specific model of anything.

WMP has raised their prices over the years, but they still will give you a discount on prices to match other competitors.

Find a Defender or Sailnet price, find the item at WMP and then show them. Usually no problem to match the price. Of course, special orders are different.

Good luck.

I understand what you're saying Stu. That's good that they will usually match a price.

Thanks,

Mark

For Sailnet prices, they'll generally match the price including shipping. (I'd say that's fair.) Just print the entire order form (without completing the order), and take it to the WM store. I've saved a bunch that way. Two local WM stores here have Defender catalogs at the checkout counters, so if you ask, you can get the match very easily. (It probably helps that Defender is just about an hour down I-95.)
