I PUT MY MAINSAIL ON THIS YEAR AFTER HAVING IT WASHED AND I CAN'T FOR THE LIFE OF ME GET IT TIGHT ON A WINDY DAY. I ALWAYS HAVE A BEND
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LEACH CAUSING A BELLY IN THE SAIL OF WHICH I AM TRYING TO AVOID. I HAVE MY OUT HAUL PULLED TIGHT. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS? I DON'T HAVE A BOOM VANG. I HAVE AN 1981 C25 FK.

Hmmmm,...I'm not sure if I fully understand what is going on here, but assuming your topping lift is not preventing you from sheeting in the main fully, is your leech line(if you have one) properly adjusted?

1. get a boom vang.

2. if it's an original 1981 sail, it is no doubt stretched.

3. the sail isn't designed to be perfectly flat: if it were, it wouldn't provide any lift. The question is, how much belly is there, and where? You need someone who knows sails near you to have a look at it: we don't have enough information to address the issue.

Brooke is correct. Without further information and most likely a picture, we won't be able to give you a good cure. You are definitely going to want some camber in the sail (also mentioned by Brooke)

Without seeing it I would offer the following as possible fixes.

I would attempt any number of things to correct the problem. The biggest two would be to loosen the leach line and check the battens. It is possible, depending on the type of line, that the leach line shrunk during cleaning.

Try setting your outhaul prior to hoisting the sail as well as tightening your boom vang. Do you have a boom downhaul? in strong winds your boom might also be rising.

Lastly, I would check my rig as well. If the rig is leaning aft, you would also have that problem.
