Just wanted to share my perfect day: Sunny Day in Buffalo, sailing my new (to me) C25. 10 - 15 knot breeze all day, Main and 150 genoa furled out all the way. We sailed @ 10-15 degrees of heel at 5.5 to 6.5 knots boat speed all day. The C25 is a dream to sail!!
My question : Many in the forum talk about being happy with 4 knots, But according to my GPS and knotmeter, they both concured on average 6.1 knots and peaks at 6.6 according to GPS and 6.7 on knotmeter. Can I expect this kind of performance all the time? Is 10-15 degrees of heel about right for the C25?
I have a standard rig with new VC-17 bottom paint and a brand new main and the afformentioned 150 roler furled genoa.
When you sail with the current you will get the added speed of the current along with the boat speed. When you sail against it your knot meter may say 4 or 5 and progress will only be 2 or 3 Kts.
You said it yourself. It was a perfect day for the 150% genoa and full mainsail, and you had a fresh coat of racing bottom paint. I suspect you were also reaching most of the time that you were getting those high knotmeter readings, because a sailboat will usually sail its fastest on a beam reach. In those same conditions, you can expect the same results. In less wind, you will not reach those speeds, and if you are beating to windward, you will probably not reach those speeds. In strong winds you might exceed those speeds by as much as a knot when running downwind.
I have always believed that the C-25 is one of the best sailing boats of its type, and it sounds like you were also doing a pretty good job of sailing it.
Is that Buffalo, NY? My wife and I are going to look at a 25 SR/FK tonite in Ohio. We expect to to make the deal after looking at it and doing an out of water inspection. Where in Buffalo are you docked?
We were out in a Catalina 22 on Sunday and we experienced the Same. We cruised out into the lake and came back via the Outer Harbor. Averaging about 5-6 knots. We looked high and low at all types of boats and the Catalina 25 looks as if it is an all around great deal.
We recently lost our Macgregor 26 to a trailor accident and this will be our replacement boat. Just curious as I haven't seen may Buffalonians post on any of these Forums.
yeah, that's Buffalo NY!! We are currently docked in Small Boat Harbor. Thinking of going up to Wilson next year, as lake Ontario is so much better for sailing, with many more destinations.
