Folks, I was racing the other day and on the downwind legs I sent the Admiral (much to her dismay) forward with my extendable boat pole to hold my sloppy jib out while going wing on wing. She used the handle end toward the sail and it worked really well. Has anyone tried using an attached whisker pole on the jib? I would like to have the performance without sacrificing my relationship.
Hah! I used to sail with guys that used the telescoping boat hook as a whisker pole and tied it to the mast. Some creative knots might save some grief from the Admiral. A permamnent installation with a good pole is always more desireable.
There have been lenghty discussions on this topic in this forum. Do a seach for "whisker" in the C250 forum and read some of the previous discussions. The one from jkey back on 11/2002 is a good one. Maybe Jamie can comment on how his Christmas present has worked out.
We have a Forespar 6-12 adjustable heavy-duty whisker pole with an eye attached on the mast.
We use it mostly when racing. Works well. Read some other threads in the general section, it will give you some other ideas of making your own. Steve Milby uses an extendable painters pole and buys the ends from a boat supply house i.e. West Marine.
