I'm nearly done with my refinishing project and now I want to put the boat's name on each side of the hull. Any thoughts on the size of the letters to use for this? I was thinking around 6".

Yes, that is how I did mine. Whereever you do it, be sure not to get too much water/soap mixture on the backing paper, however!

Look around your marina at the other boats and see what size looks good to you.
I like names that are a bit larger than smaller so they can be seen at a distance out on the water. One of the things I like to do while singlehanding for countless hours is to take pictures of other boats under sail that are from my marina with my ever ready 35mm SLR with zoom lens and a larger name helps me identify boats both on the water and when I get the pictures developed. After I get the pictures developed and I've identified them, I put them in ziploc bags and then place them in the cockpits of those boats. Most of the time I don't know the owner personally, I just recognize the boats and having a large name makes it easier to match pictures to boats.
The lettering on "This Side Up" is 10" high (everything is bigger in Texas!!) and the arrows on each side of the name are 12". The whole decal is 58" wide and 2 years ago I replaced them for $23.00 (total) through a local franchise of American Sign. Derek (still visiting Gary B. in WA)
