I am not sure what happened..... was it the dock? was it the previous owner, or was it time? Today I found one of my genny cars just totaly wasted(bearings falling out of the side wasted). It was a pretty nice piece of equipment and no it is a another kind of piece! Does anyone have a line on a in-expensive replacement. $120 + is what I have seen in my harken catalog. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.
Re: "<i>... genny cars ... Does anyone have a line on a in-expensive replacement[ ? ]</i>"
I recently replaced my original 1979 genoa lead cars. The new ones are plastic lined SS, pin lock, (Ronstan #RF985 I think), with 57mm Harken #2600 "Black Magic" blocks. It came out to less than $100 total to do both sides as I recall. They work real well. Be careful you don't drop the plastic liners overboard during installation -- they're not captive until they're on the track. It might not be a bad idea to order spares while you're at it and throw them in your spares kit. ($2.60 for a complete set.)
If you want to spend more, the Garhaur (sp?) line control genoa cars look pretty good at between $200 and $250 the last time I checked.
Atgep, I posted the same ? about a year ago, the general consensus was Garhauer. I went with them and am happy I did. The price was great and they are nice looking and operating blocks. One problem was, on one of the track slides, the weld underneath was a little sloppy and it dragged on the track. It made it very difficult to adjust. A few minutes with a file solved the problem.
