Last week I was ranting on about my "black beauty" mercury 4.5 H.P. motor's inability to back my boat out of her slip in anyhting more than calm airs. As I am theologicly apposed to spending any more money than neccessary, I found a good used 25" shaft evinrude yachtwin 8HP with a "hi-thrust" prop. It works much better I am happy to say. Sailed off to Port Colburne Ontario from Buffalo NY, with no real problems. Much more thrust in reverse, if not much more control. But I feel safer, my wife feels safer, life is good. Until the sail home. Almost a dead run all the way, wind mabey 10 degrees off starboard stern. Of corse I have no whiskar pole. So my 150 R/F genoa is for the most part flapping in a 10-15 knot breeze, either behind the main, or on the other side in a feeble attemt to fly wing on wing. One hour from beautiful downtown Buffalo, fed up with constantly banging into my shrouds, she developed a nice tear right in front of the UV cover. Oh well, it was an old sail, and what a boring day it is that nothing goes wrong!!! My local loft says $100 for a fix that should get me thru the season. But I had alot of fun, the C25 never ceases to amaze me in consistant, predictable performance when the wind is up. Almost a perfect boat. (If it only had an inboard!!!)
