Here's another question which has come up in my research into furling sails. Are the measurements for a furling sail different from a standard hank on sail? This came up in that a local rep for Schurr sails said that he likes to do the measurements on the boat after a furler is installed as sometimes someone has changed someof the measurements, ie stem fitting location, mast height. etc. I told him no changes were made as far as I know. I would certainly like to have a sail on hand when I install a furler, not put it on, and then wait several weeks for a sail to be made.
I can imagine that the sailmaker would want to determine the luff length based on the position of top of the drum and the bottom of the swivel on the installed system... My sail has a bridle (8-10") probably meant to keep the head away from the swivel and halyard, and possibly to adjust the sail to the system--I don't know, since a PO bought it. I also have the little block on the mast to prevent halyard wrap--evidently not used correctly by a PO, since the forestay got "unwound" at the top.
