My old Venture 25 had the silliest mainsheet arrangement. The mainsheet was tied to an eyestrap on the port/aft corner of the boat, then went up through a fiddle on the boom, down to a single block on the starboard/aft corner, back up through the boom fiddle, then back down to a standup block w/cam cleat. That's the silliest arrangement I've seen.

quote:
Say you did put an SR main on a TR...you would still have the massive headsail which on the C25 is the power sail and I'll bet loosing an arms length of cloth from the main might not appreciably affect performance for a cruiser.

I agree with you there. But, my point is, why would you want to limit your options by committing to a short sail when you could simply reef it when you wanna and shake it out when you don't?
As for the tenderness thing, well OK. Maybe it's "relatively" more tender. But I don't think enough to cause anyone distress used to a standard rig. As long as you reef when appropriate.

You haven't met my wife!
I'm just curious 1) why you're selling that beautiful boat, and 2) how on earth did you end up with the catalina25 domain name?

Oh boy, some people say SR, some say TR.. where's my measuring tape?
I'm selling my wonderful Catalina 25 to purchase a J/24. I've done some racing on them and want to join the fleet here in Charleston. I hate to see the boat go, I love my C25.
The domain name was available so I bought it. I'll give the domain name to whoever buys the boat I guess.
I also had a venture25 and the PO had put a custom traveler just aft of the companionway that streached across the cockpit. Worked great.
Well, Mike... Sounds like you should change your signature to "'89 TR/WK" before you leave. That combination seems to have more cachet in the market, or at least it appeals to some--maybe compensating?

quote:
The easiesr way to tell a SR rig from a TR rig is the masthead truck. The casting on the SR is indented and on the TR it is fair.

Could be... I recall mine having the indentations. (Except mine has room for two sets of sheaves for external halyards.)

mtiffee, i too live and sail in charleston. i have an 84 tr/fk, and i have found it to be a perfect combination for this area. i wouldnt trade my tr for a sr for any reason (my main is hardly ever reefed, i like being tan... so no need for a bimini, and i dont have an 'admiral' scared of being heeled past 20 degrees). if you are trading for a j24, i would guess that you are planning on doing some racing. that is the only reason i would trade my boat for a j24. you will be sacrificing much in terms of creature comforts in exchange for only a slight increase in speed, but since youve been on j24s before, im sure you realize that. as for that photo you have, it looks to me like you are either at the cooper river marina, or at hobcaw point. my boat has been on d dock at the cooper river marina for the past 3 years now, and i absolutely love it there.
