I have a problem with slippage of the halyard with the main about 10 inches from the top, has anyone else experiened this and if so what was the solution. If I put enough tention on the halyard, I can crank it up, if no tention then it slips. Thanks Rick Fraid Knot WK703
Had the same problem, although with a different type of cleat, all else being the same the solution below should work....
I bought a new fatter main halyard (3/8" instead of 5/16") with snap shackle spliced in, on e-bay.......(around $60.00)
Remove the shackle from the old halyard and use electrical tape and a thin piece of string to temporarily "splice" the new one to the old one and feed it through the mast. (If you need a diagram/photo let me know.)
Buy a small block and attach it to the aft side of the truck at the top of the mast (on the same pin as the back stay) and whoppa you have yourself a topping lift out of the old halyard (Makes reefing a whole lot easier).
As I reported in the earlier topic about this problem, Frank Butler did send me a new power clutch which, I have installed and it so far is working ok. I did ask F.B. if upsizing to the next size line for the main halyard was an option. I was not sure it would fit through the mast fittings but, I see Oscar has been there done that. I think that upsizing the line is the best solution.
