I'm interested in replacing my gooseneck with a fixed variety. I have not been able to locate one for the Catalina 25. Catalina Direct has one for $53.00 but cannot send me a diagram, manufacture or picture.
If any of you know of one out there, I'd sure appreciate your input.
If you are looking for a way to keep the gooseneck in one spot on the mast, simply put a sail slide stop both above and below the gooseneck....That's what I do. This method is cheap, adjustable, and easy.
Thanks for this suggestion Don, although I have a problem with rotational torque twisting the boom due to routing of lines through a double cheek block mounted near the gooseneck on the boom. I was looking at some fixed goosenecks and noticed that there would be less of this twisting due to a beefier design.

I agree that the gooseneck is rather weak and could benefit from being a little beefier. Good luck with your search, Mark.
Lowell Richardson sent me an e-mail explaining that the gooseneck he has available is a standard item on the late model 25's. If someone has a photo of this or has seen one, I'd appreciate learning more about it's construction.
On a couple of boats I have had the gooseneck was fixed by drilling and tapping into the slug groove just below the slug gate, putting a hexhead machine screw there to prevent the sliding gooseneck exiting upwards, then put a standard knurled stop below the gooseneck. It is the upper stop, after all, that takes the load. This solution in no way deals with your twisting problem, however, good luck, ron srsk Orion SW FL
