Looking for owners in the Chesapeake for cruising ideas and possible buddy sails. I just bought a '96 250 WB, moored in the Rhode River (an estuary to the West River). Have done the St. Michael thing and the Kent Island thing, but looking for other ideas and possible floatillas with other owners.
This site is a great resource. Hope to hear from some of you.
Welcome Shawn! I'm south of you in Herring Bay, Herrington Harbour North Marina. I know there are a couple other posters in the Herring Bay area. There are at least a half dozen 25/250's on my pier alone, although I don't know any of them personaly as of yet. Unfortunately my overnight trips have come to a grinding halt late this summer (found out one of the cats has Diabetes so needs two shots a day at the moment...) but would be up for any flotilas or if you need a crew... Maybe someday there will be a movement afoot to get a more local "chapter" in our mid-bay area? Any takers? Feel free to respond here or via e-mail if you need more info or suggestions... I'll be on the look-out on any northern sails!
Hi Shawn, I'm fairly new having purchased a '97 250wk this past spring. We've been limited to day-sailing so far, so can't suggest any interesting ports of call yet. I'd be interested in a group get-together if we can create some interest. Like Kirk, I'm in Herrington Harbour North.
Kirk, what dock are you on? I'm in C-8. Stop by if you're down on a Friday or a weekend. I'm trying to be on the boat as much as I can before winter gets here.
Lady Kay is "docked" in my driveway in Bethlehem, PA, but most sailing is done on the Chesapeake. We've dropped in/hauled out in Rock Hall, Knapps Narrows and St.Michaels.
According to the Mainsheet, Catalina 25/250 fleet #8 hails out of Baltimore, I think I remember them talking about cruising get togethers.....it lists Joe Rolfes as the contact.
If you see hull 205 out of the West River, give me holler on channel 12.
I wouldn't mind seeing an organized group on our part of the bay get some activities together. There's a great gunkhole on the Rhode River with a little beach that usually has plenty of room to put out a hook and spend the night.
Anyone interested in doing a little floatilla, or crewing my boat or yours, drop me an email at shawn.daly@convergys.com. Having just bought 205 a month ago, I'm on her EVERY weekend. Sometime with wife and boys, sometimes a little more extreme single-handing or with one or two crew.
Well, I'm way down the Bay in Deltaville, VA. There 2 other other C25 at my marina although I don't think they participate in this forum. I've seen several other C25s in my area, but never another C250.
Deltaville is at the mouth of the Rappahannock on the south side of the river (Stingray Point, rather than Windmill Point on the north side. There are two ways to get into Deltaville -- off the Rappahannock into Broad Creek, or on the south side off the Piankatank. I don't know which side Cathy is on.
I'm 15 miles up the Rappahannock in beautiful Urbanna. There are several C25's in our marina (Urbanna Yachting Center). Urbanna is a terrific place to visit for a weekend: shops, stores, and restaurants all within walking distance of the marinas (quite unlike Deltaville), a wonderful little beach right at the mouth of the creek for swimming, and, except for the first weekend of November during Oyster Festival, it's quiet and friendly.
It's a LONG two day sail from the West River (unless you sail all night). If you're down this way, give me a shout.
Hey Bubba, I guess we're neighbors! I'm on C Dock also, C-70?(The third boat from the far end!) I'll probably be around on Sunday. Should be a great weekend....NO RAIN! I'll take a peek to see if you're around. It would be great to get some "group" things going. I thought about the Baltimore group, but it would take me the weekend to get up there! Hope this gets going... I usually have a camera handy on the boat, so if I see anybody I'll snap a few photos of you under sail! Have a great weekend! Later
If anyone is going to be out Sunday, let me know approximately where. I'll be underway by 0800, looks like there's about 8 miles of bay between me and herrington bay area.
Am I beginning to hear some rumblings about the infancy of a fleet developing? I don't the bay's geography very well, but one of the best ways to enjoy a c25/250 is to get together for sailing, cruising and racing, and, of course for the social time that comes.
Maybe y'awl might want to try to get together and start talking about organizing a fleet - no reason that the Cheasepeake couldn't support several fleets.

I've seen people previously talking about leaving flyers on/by/near people's boats to introduce themselves and such. Perhaps if there is an interest, we could come up with something of that sort to give other 25/250 people at our various marina's the info or a feeler on starting an organization or just a social greet....?
Add me to the list. I'm very interested in racing/cruising. I'm up on the upper Potomac and go out once a week usually in the evening. No cruising south of Mount Vernon yet, but dieing to go. Just have to convince the wife and kids (6 and 3).
We have only one other C-250 on the upper Potomac, but there are numerous C-25's. Only heard from one other on this site. Maybe we should plan a social event first.
I'm up the Potomac at Alexandria, VA. I raced my boat in this weekend's Leukemia Cup. There were two other C-25's in the race, one of whom won the race. I'm thinking that next summer, I'd like to take the boat down to the bay for a week-long cruise. Maybe we can get a floatilla together next summer.

Bruce, sounds good. If you ever want to give the bay a try, let me know. We could go out of the West River on my 250 and cross to St. Michael of Kent Island. It's a crowded area of the bay, but there's usually good wind once I clear the river.
This site is a GREAT resource full of VERY helpful folks.

quote:
Unless anyone has an objection, I've added you all to an email group on my work machine. Anytime I'm getting out, I'll give you all a shout.
Cathy, Deltaville is on which estuary? I'll be down in Reedville (Little Wicomico River) during mid October.
As Brooke said, Deltaville is the peninsula behind Stingray Point off either the Rappahannock or Piakatank. I'm on the Piankatank side just behind Stove Point in Fishing Bay Harbor Marina. Deltaville is a little spread out, but you can usually find a ride into the restaurants from any of the marinas. Brooke's right about Urbanna - its a wonderful town & much easier to walk around as a visitor. Both Deltaville & Urbanna are a nice days sail from Reedville.
I don't know all the details of forming a fleet, but a very early step would be to see if there is interest. To do that I'd post here that a meeting is being held, and would leave flyers on boats in the nearby marinas. If there is interest contact one of the officers for more details. Some where along the line you may want to draft guidelines about the purpose of the fleet, and the knids of activities that y'awl are interested in. As I've been thinking about fleets, I've thought a Catalina 25/Catalina 250 fleet might be the way the go.
my feeble brains food for thought.

Don, How many Catalina C25/C250's are you aware of on your end of the lake? We had two C-25's at our Marina and I'm sure I saw more at Northhamton Marina near the state campsite. Has anyone ever thought of pursuing a Catalina flotilla around the Great Sacandaga Lake? "Bear" on Brandy C50
Chesapeke owners lets make a move. I haven't asked my wife for permission yet, but if now one else volunteers I'll host a social at my house in early November.
What did everyone do with his/her boat in preparation for the Isabel? I moved mine from the Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis to Harness Creek off the South River and dropped two anchors (a 45 lbs and a 15 lbs) with 100' of line and 15' of chain each. I hope that'll hold!
Finished tying up yesterday afternoon at Rhode River Marina - off of the West River. This is a well known hurricane hole and we're expecting things to be relatively tame that far up.
Good luck to all in Isabel's path.

I spent yesterday afternoon taking everything I could off the boat. I had fun getting the sails off in what was a pretty good blow. It would have been a great afternoon to sail
I certainly now believe that the C-25 could use a few more deck cleats or at least larger ones! After I decided I was finished, the Marina Manager came by and said that I should move my boat to another pier further up the creek. I asked if he had anybody that could help, but he said they couldn't. I left it where it was. Don't know what I'll find when I get back?
