The '89WK I am hoping to bring home in two weeks is Hull #5857, built in October of '88, which makes her the 174th-to-the-last-ever Catalina 25 (#6031 is believed to be the last one made). I am getting all pumped up about this boat, although dreading the 6000 mile round trip drive. I did check into commercial boat movers, but the extreme distance makes the cost prohibitive, more than I will pay for the boat itself, so I will have to do the drive. At least it isn't mid-winter, and I would have to worry about snow/sleet/blizzards on the Great Plains. My tentative plan is to drive east, with the empty trailer, on I-80, then back west, with the boat, on I-40 which if I recall has fewer high mountain passes to cross than does I-80. Distance is about the same. I am scheduled to head out a week from tomorrow, on the 12th. Wish me luck! Tomorrow after work, I am heading out to the lake to put Quiet Time on a borrowed trailer, so I can use Quiet Time's trailer to pick up the new boat. The trailer was freshly rebuilt last spring with all new heavy duty axles, springs, and tires and should be well up to a 6000 mile road trip. I can't wait to see this boat with my own eyes and step aboard for the first time! I have been shopping on-and-off for three years to find one, and have turned down a few because they were too expensive, needed too much work, or not equipped the way I wanted (two of them had the inboard diesel option, which I decided against for various reasons). Two weeks!

Maybe you have more trailering experience than me ... (I don't have much)... but I would encourage you to consider re-greasing your bearings after you get to the boat, and somewhere along the 3000 mile return. And check your tire pressure every day. Take your time (in other words, don't drive too fast) and also take some good CD's or tapes. <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> Congratulations. What's her name?
Another unsolicited (and probably unneeded) suggestion: When towing the empty trailer, put something very visible as high as possible at the very aft end so some yahoo doesn't drive up on top of it. It can also be helpful for backing.

Larry: Godspeed and Good Luck on your trip. Just drive slowly and don't be in a hurry. Keep us posted on how things go. By the way I should have told you that a link to photos of "Selah", my 89 WK is: www.eblings.org click on bruceronda and you will find our website. Bruce Ebling 1989 WK "Selah"
Just a thought. You might want to go out the same route that you take the boat back. That way you would see exactly what to expect enroute, including roadwork hazards.
Hi Larry! Sounds exciting. I just bought my boat a week ago, thanks to all the great advice you gave me through our email exchanges. You didnt tell me you were close to a purchase, too. I would like to hear about where you found the boat, how you checked it out from long distance, etc. (sorry if I missed posts on this). I moved up from Holder 14 so I have a lot to learn. This forum convinced me that this was the right boat for me and that there is a great network of C25 sailors out there. I will need lots of advice since I have some updating to do on the boat. I cant wait to hear about your successful journey to pick up your "new" boat. Good Luck!! Greg
If things don't work out, drive down to Charleston, SC and pick up my 89WK! I'll make you a great deal! :-) Congrats on the purchase, hope you and the boat make it back safe!
