When we got ready to sail recently, we realized the boom had become detached from the mast. Found a clevis pin and ring on the deck which evidentally had been holding the two together. We attached the boom with these pieces and it seemed fine.
My question is: is this kosher? Is this the right hardware for the job? If so, why did it become detached?
It sounds like the clevis pin and ring that attach the forward end of the boom to the gooseneck, which rides up and down in the mast slot. Is that correct? Was the clevis ring bent out of shape? It's possible that a line snagged the ring and dislodged it from the pin.

I've no idea why your boom attachment came loose, but from your description it sounds like you've got it back together right. Here is a link to a page in the Catalina 25 parts manual that shows the assembly ... maybe it will help you confirm you've got the proper attachment:
