"Wow what a huge difference."

Moxie got hauled out after a short (1 hour) sail out in the Neuse. 20 - 25 knots of wind with the infamous square 3 foot seas we get around here when the wind is up. I rolled out the 110 jib and whoosh! away we went at hull speed and 20 degrees of heel. Yee Haw, everything got wet.<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

I justified it as there was a line at the ramp to get out. My timing was perfect as I had to wait only about 10 minutes when I returned for my turn.

Once she was on the tailer and parked I set up the A-Frame, slacked the shrouds and released the forestay and with a slight push to get it started down came the mast. Very easy, hardly any sensation of a load on the line as I belayed it down. I ran the line from the block I shackled to the stem fitting back to the cleat on the port coaming. There was a slight tendancy for the mast to swing to starboard at about 45 degrees but I easily held that in check.

Moxie is back in the driveway at home, safe and secure. I plan to play around with raising and lowering the mast to fine tune the system, but all I can say is WOW. I spend 14.12 at Lowes Hardware for everything, (2 - 10 feet long, 1" diameter aluminum conduit; 1 - very large snap shackle, 5 - 1/4" bolts with nylon lock washers {4 - 1.5" long and 1 - 1" long}) Maybe an hours worth of time crimping the tubing ends and drilling holes.

I should have done this years ago. Thanks to Buzz Maring for all his pictures and comments. You convinced me to give a try.

Hi Clif,

It's great to hear a nice success story. More important than that, you've got your boat high & dry where she won't have to take the brunt of Isabel.

Good luck to all of y'all ... stay safe!

I'm trying my system next week sometime. I hope to have another weekend of sailing, unless Isabel sends love to Ohio. I almost have my a-frame put together. Hopefully my exprience will be a positive as Clif's.
