Why don't we create a special list, registry or contact sheet for C25/250 National Association members only? The purpose of the list would be to enable you to contact another association member if you are travelling. The people on the list would be offering to take other members sailing in their home waters. This list would give name, phone number, boat type, and email address, plus any limits or season start/stop dates. Kind of like a yacht club with reciprocal privildges.
Any association member who visits San Diego is more than welcome to spend a day, evening or just about any time they can spare aboard Indiscipline. I'm going to be in Sacramento in a few weeks visiting the seat of our State government. Wouldn't an evening sail in the Delta be wonderful?
We have members all over the world. This could be a really cool idea.
As much as I'd love to meet any of you in our boat our yours, I prefer the general approach that's available now... If you're going to be in an area, particularly over a weekend, and you'd like to meet local association members and possibly sail with them, post your plans here and await invitations. IMHO, that's a more comfortable approach than contacting members and inviting yourself into their potential plans, possibly making them feel obligated to accommodate you. "Any time" is easy to say, and sometimes easy to regret having said.
It's worked here before, and perhaps it will for your trip to Sacramento, Jim. If it generates a lot of interest, we could have a separate forum for the purpose (like the Swap Meet), but I suspect the General Forum is adequate.

Would it be possible to make the “Members” section of the forum only available to paid members? I know the staff area is only visible to officers and staff. That way you could post plans that only members would see. Of course we have a registration on the web site, I’m sure how up to date it is.
The idea of the registry is that you would not contact members and invite yourself into their plans. The idea is that people who were willing to host other members would list their contact info. If some people were listed in the Sacramento area, I might email them with my travel dates. If I got a response, I would probably call and talk awhile and see if we both wanted to go on this "blind date". I certainly would not expect an invitation would be mandatory.
I don't know, it's just an idea. I would like to meet many of you and would be happy to take you sailing here in Mission Bay. I would love to sail in Sacramento, the Bay area, or some of the other great places that this organization spans. I'd also like to experience a C250.
I suggested members only because I am not offering free boat rides to the world of people who can look at this web site. But other members at least have a C25/250 and understand it's limitations and abilities.
Yes, it is possible to have a paid members forum only. I don't really want to do that because it could move much of the interesting discussions off the public boards. I have seen web forums that went that way and in my opinion it killed the overall value of the forum (plus traffic dropped).
I can see the possible "issues" but hey, there are few things more fun than sailing with guests. I hope someone does call me if they are in the Wichita area. It would be a hoot, or pleasant at the very least. I am proud of my club and the fun we have on our lake. Jim, why does the sail cover on Indiscipline look upsidedown?
Jim, this could be a good thing although Dave does have a valid point. We've all seen requests here for doing some sailing while in a new area....but not lately. I know that I forget to make the effort to find a fellow C25/C250 sailor when traveling up to the San Francisco area. I then get up there and tell my wife I wished I had made some contacts to sail in the bay or in the delta. So I just growl at myself for forgetting to do the obvious. BTW, my wife, daughter, and I drove down last Saturday to San Diego to watch the Aztec football game....I could have contacted you and gone sailing during the day but I forgot. Must be my 53 + Alzheimers kicking in. My boat is still on the trailer waiting to get launched at Perris Lake for the winter. I'm waiting for the daily temps to get below 90 degrees consistently. I hate sailing on a hot-decked boat. Wish I could afford/find a slip in San Diego. My problem is always wanting to sail in the evenings after work and SD being 2 hours away. I invite local (loco?) friends to sail after work and weekends up here. Works wonders for the stress, you know. So maybe the next Aztec game day you might be sailing in Mission Bay? Or do you still have the upsidedown sail cover boat up at Dana Point? A list might be good. Or maybe a separate page for people looking for rides in specific locations around the country? Or maybe a list of offers by people looking for travelers/owners of Catalinas? Time to talk this one up. Gary
I have tried several times to line up a time for sailing, but have never received an invite. (Dave's suggestion of the way it has been in the past.) One of the thoughts that has been running through my mind is having a broader members only section, that would provide benifit for the members of the association - not to replace the general discussions on the present forums, but things like this, "I'm looking for a ride in _________ on thus and such a date. Then as members travel, they might have a chance to make contact with other 25/250 owners and have a chance to sail. I don't know if it would work, so it's something that needs discussion.

When I roll up the bolt-rope mainsail, and sail-tie it to the boom, it ends up hanging under the boom. The sailcover covers the sail and vang. All the sailcover snaps are on the underside of the cover.
Jim, I sent an e-mail yesterday by way of the profile ... obviously I did not do it correctly. What I had in mind was to pay you a short visit sometime late Sunady the 30th or late Monday the 1st ... Barbara has to return to St. Louis Sunday afternoon (Lv. LAX at 3:35). I am planning to vist my Aunt up off of Waring and Zion on Monday. I leave LAX Tuesday at 3:35 for St. Louis. Is your schedule/interest such that we might get together for a coffee/beer ? Perhaps at your marina? I'll be in Ventura for T'giving with Sister-in-law ... How can we touch base about this?
Jim... How about an informal calendar where members can post cruising plans out of their normal sailing area.
Perhaps members might see them and decide to tag along or if they reside in the area could volunteer their services, such as you have to all of us. That would give dates people plan to be in an area and before someone offers hospitality they can make sure it fits their schedule.
That way members who want to open their homes/hearts can contact members planning to travel in their area. Put the offering on the shoulders of those who live where members are planning to travel.
Also on a calendar format, more members might be able to plan to join a cruise that they might otherwise not have thought about taking.
