When I got my fixer-upper the hatch was left open and water was in the boat. The cushions in the cabin were wet and the v-berth cushions were very damp. The backsides of the v-berth cushions were beginning to show some mildew or mold spots. I pulled all the cushions out and left them dry and air out. They look to be in very good condition. I was wondering if any one has had any experience such as this, and how to do a real thorough cleaning with out damaging the cloth or the backing? I was considering the foaming stuff that you clean car seats and carpet spots with, but thought I would ask those in the know first. Thanks in advance for any hints, help, or suggestions.

When I first purchased my boat I took the covers off the cushions and soaked/handwashed them in soapy water in the laundry room sink.

I then hosed the foam cushions down, squeezed the excess water out, then air/sun dried them on the back deck.

After everything Don suggested, spray on some Febreze fabric deoderizer and give the cushions a few more hours in the sun. Also, wipe down the entire interior with a mild bleach solution--there's bound to be mildew, which might look like thin white powder, on all surfaces--especially the wood.

A quick follow-up to Dave's suggestion (a good one: I clean every surface in the interior every Spring with a mild bleech solution). After you've wiped down the teak surfaces, re-oil them. Bleech is very drying to wood, and it can cause the finish to turn "splotchy" (whatever that is). Oiling it promtly will make it like new again.
