My boat has a water system in it that looks like is has not been used, or cleaned, in ages. The lines are just nasty - even from the outside. Rather than trying to clean them, I am thinking about just replacing them, but have no idea what that involves or how to get started. Can anyone offer any advice???
First i would inspect the tubing leading to the galley and latrine. If it is like mine was (plenty of algae and dirty) I opted to replace all the tubing, not expensive and it is available at Lowes or Home Depot.
Otherwise if you make a solution of chlorine and water ( I use pool chemicals) I used (2) tablets per 1 gal water. Add this via the deckside port to the tank. Let it sit for 2 day then flush the system via a syphon. Dont use the water with this high level of chlorine. I then add 1 cap of bleach per tank of clean waterto maintain a residual.
NOTE I do not drink this water, but use it only for cleaning.
