Not long ago I read about a "trick" for cleaning the scum that collects along the waterline. The trick is to use a fresh lemon cut in half ... simply use the lemon half to scrub the scum away.
I finally remembered to take a couple of lemons to the boat, so I jumped in the water and tried it last night. I'm happy to report that it really does work pretty well. So, if you are inclined to be environmentally friendly when you clean your boat, this might be just the thing you've been looking for.
BTW, I used four medium-sized lemons to do the whole boat.
