I just got back from a trip to LA. While I was there, Friday morning I got a tour of the Catalina factory from Ed Arango, sales manager. Super nice guy and, as others have said on the forum, a FANTASTIC tour of the plant! It really is something to see all those beautiful boats being crafted. Anyone in the Burbank area that has an hour to spare needs to call and set up a tour.
At any rate, while we were looking at the 250s being built, I noticed hull numbers 742-745 and thought I remembered your new (replacement) boat was going to be #743. If that's correct, here she is:
You are correct, she sure looks good in those pictures. Scheduled completion date is 10-10-03. No word yet on shipping date. Thanks for remindering and the pictures. The General will be home Monday from her trip (she is in public relations) and I am sure will be excited to see them. Thanks again.
Hey Bren that was really nice of you to snap a photo for Frog, I can only imagine the excitement of delivery....noticed too that the front side window is now split, wonder what hull number they changed the look. Great photo!

It looks to me that the window was not installed yet. If you look closely you can see the outline of where the window fits into.
I was loooking at the pictures again and the light came on. Notice the dates on the production schedule. Apparently they did not start the boat until 9-17 instead of 9-2 as they promised and the completion date is not 10-10, but sometime after 10-29. That is probably better since that fits into the Generals' plan better for our trip to Texas to visit our grandaughter in Coppers Cove. Think Bryan is correct about the windows. The front is the same way. Looks like one from the outside, but two from the inside.
Bren if possible can you EM the pictures to me. I want to EM the dealer and have him check the production schedule. If correct, as I said works better for the planned trip. Thanks again. EM address mulvihilljs@netzero.net
Frog & Sailgal...I took delivery on a 2004wk a couple of weeks ago and the front window is not slpit...had to go back and look at the photos, so there has been no change...Dan #727
Good eye! I was there and didn't even notice the split in the forward window! Looking at the photo directly (not from the post) it is much clearer and is indeed split! I did notice it on some of the larger boats but think those may have always had them. Now, I cannot say for certain that it will appear split once the window is installed. In the actual photo it appears that the window pattern itself is molded the same as it has been, however, there is the additional 'brace' which is 'indented' as if the window will sit on top of it, covering it.
One of the changes I DID notice over my 02 model was a new bow pulpit design. It has a bit more rake to it and the stanchions are a bit changed.

That is how my 2000wk is. Was it made differently at one time?
Man, do I feel like an idiot. I just got back from the lake and my boat. It's as Duane said, a 'single window' from the outside and split only on the interior. I guess I spend all my time OUTSIDE of the boat, not INSIDE.
Bryan, you triggered something in my head when you said you're WK has always been that way. I think from a picture of a friend's 250WB that the window was indeed once a single window from the inside as well. However, when Catalina went to a common topside mold for both the WK and WB (early 2002?) and moved the rigging from the gunwale to the top of the cabin roof (ala WK), the interior split seems to have appeared.
Aside from that. . . Jerry, when exactly are you going to be in Copperas Cove? That's only about 2 hours or so from me in San Antonio. If I'm in town, I would be happy to meet you at the lake and take you out for a spin around the lake in 'Ruah.'
Looks like the chainplate is just inboard of that "split" on the cabintop. The panel between the windows may be for preventing the chainplate from bowing the cabintop at the window, and may possibly even hide a tang from the chainplate to the deck. Deck-stayed models wouldn't have needed that.
