In my recently purchased 84 their are three access areas to the bilge. When I remove the two directly on the cabin sole...all i access is the bilge...Is there no pin for the swing keel? Why the access areas?
the third area is elevated by the table. Is it to just cover up the lead keel?
Pierre, Congratulations on your purchase of C25 and welcome to the forum.
The two sole plates you mentioned allow access to the bilge area for removing water, cleaning and other things. The big box covers the area that the top of the swing keel rises to when the keel is lowered. It is just a dress up cover to hide an ugly fiberglass construct that keeps the hull secure and water tight.
There is no ready access to the keel pivot pin from the inside of the boat. All work on the 1500# keel, pivot pin, pivot pin hanger, cable and turning ball and cable hose must be done 'on the hard', as they say.
I'd suggest that you do a search on this forum for 'Keel Cable' as there are many existing threads regarding maintenance of these items. Extremely helpful information, discussed by owners who have pretty well worked the subject to a very high degree. It will pay off if you are planning any work. the keel weighs 1500# and is not simple to handle, but do-able. You will find a copy of the owners manual and parts book posted elsewhere on this web site.
Try contacting 'Catalina Direct' for their catalogue (best $10 I ever spent on my boat) 1-800-959-7245 ... Other items on this website deal with many other repair proceedures and have a wealth of experience available for us all. I'd suggest that you join the owners association, as I did lasst year. It certainly took the sting out of being a 'newbie' for me.
Once again, congratulations on buying a Catalina, Good Luck, Fair winds to you
Keep in touch ...
