The Mascerator pump on Stratos is frozen up. It's been that way since I bought the boat used. There are NO pump out stations anywhere close, and the system uses a thru-hull to just pump out into the environment. I'm not too keen on that, but am told by al
<b><i><font color=blue><h4> Pumping out anywhere but open ocean is not a friendly solution. One that has worked for me....is to discharge the macerator pump to the deck pumpout fitting. It does require running the pump for a standard pumpout which is no
Not only is pumping the waste overboard unfriendly, it is illegal in all lakes, rivers, harbors, bays and sounds - anywhere a government agency has jurisdiction. In fact, although the manufacturers may claim that their devices meet Coast Guard
Well now that you know its illegal I would recoment replacing the system with a good porta-potie. You can get a very good one for a resonable price. Now if you plan on being out for more than a few days you might want to go with a ships head and holding t
Sam - I suggest that you measure the base area where the porta-potti is to go, and then get the largest one that will fit! Derek, who has one on "This Side Up"
Well, since we're talkin' porta potties (<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>), I've got one that I've never used. What is the best stuff to put in the holding tank? Where is the best place to buy it? 'Any more hints on porta pottie use
There are several liquid fresheners that work well. Put a quarter cup or so in the holding tank (not the water closet) after you've emptied the contents each time. West Marine, Boat US, and most RV places have the fresheners.
Bill, I have been putting a small amount of the go-go juice into the water closet part of my port-a-pottie. It keeps this flush water looking fresh, adds a little boost to the holding tank, and leaves a fresher look to the bowl. Do you know of any probl
I replaced the portable head on "Island Time" this summer, and I think I bought it at Wal-Mart. The only problem was that the brackets that came with it were not really sufficient to hold it in place. The last thing you want is your porta-potti f
We're satisfied with our Sani-Potti (sold by West), and Thetford's Porta Potti virtually identical. I recommend buying the 5 or 6 gallon holding tank version of either--the smaller 2.5 gallon tanks are marginal for 2 full days with 2 people, as we can at
The advantage of the 2.5 gal waste tank is that it's LIGHTER when full. 6 Gallons of you-know-what will be ~50 lbs - some fun trying to get it into the dinghy if it's a little lumpy out! I have to admit to being a little politically incorrect after dark,
OK, Charles... Now that we're coming clean, I suggested the 5 gallon tank because we filled our 2.5 earlier this year somewhere between the Mystic and Milford, and, uhhhhhhh........
It's not that you have to fill up the 5 gallon tank--just that you'll
Sam, I recently removed the marine head and holding tank on my C25. I got tired of that "head odor" that greeted me every time I slid the hatch open. I know there is alot of talk about controlling odor and proper venting but I was going to spend as

One thing that has helped extend the capacity of our pottie is the banning of paper products going into it. Especially on the longer trips. Sorry for the bluntness of this responce, however the amount of paper going into the pottie is staggering when trav

You do have to remember to harness & hook up (always a good rule at night). Several folks have been tossed because they forgot the "one hand for the ship and one hand for the ... uh .."<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>
With all of the great replies I may have missed this item somewhere so I apologize if this is a repeat. My Thetford portable has an auxilary pipe that you can connect to the thru-deck. As portables are illegal in Canada - this may come in handy if you s
Check out http://www.airheadtoilet.com There are a number of these thing on the market and when the price gets down eventually they will solve a lot of our smelly problems.
Since when are Port a potties illegal in Canada? In the Gulf Islands, Desolation Sound, etc. they are just starting to require holding tanks in the areas where the folks tie up for the night (and it is really needed! Someplaces you have to pull up
