Moonglade now has a wing keel. Alot of work to do yet, but today we set the keel. I have several photos and will post them (later, not tonight) and learn to post my experiences on the technical page as well.

My local dealer saw the Minnie pictures and noticed how much fairing had to be done. How much will need to be done on yours? Can you provide a breakdown on expenses? I don't think my guy will charge as much for labor as someone on the coasts but... could you provide the breakdown of time per sub-project it would help. Are you having anything else done to your bottom? Barrier coat?
Do you know what your new draft will be? I know C250 wing draft is 3' 5", but I thought I read somewhere that the C25 wing was less. I go through some SHALLOW water on my way out and wouldn't want to have to depend on the correct tide.

<BLOCKQUOTE id=quote><font size=1 face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id=quote>quote:<hr height=1 noshade id=quote> That sure looks nice... what a pretty hull.. is she painted or was that a factory gelcoat?
How well did the keel fit up? There was an earlier post where the owner mentioned that the keel/hull fit-up had a substantial gap in some areas.
The hull is painted. The PO had it painted with Interlux, Interthane a two part Urethane paint. The paint has held up incredibly well. I believe the hull was painted 2 years prior to our purchase and we have had the boat 8 years. I have not done alot of maintenance either. For the past five years I have only hosed it off. She sits in salt water all year. The finish looked quite dull when we hauled her for the keel job. 3M finish restorer brought the high gloss right back. I was really impressed with how easy it was to touch up dings and scratches. One of those aresol spary kits worked great. All in all I have to admit being concerned about the hull paint when we bought the boat, but I have been really pleased. When the bottom is painted black Moonglade looks even better.
The new keel fit quite well except for about the last 8 to 10 inches at the aft end. I took several closeup photos(prior to glassing and fairing the keel to the hull) I will post as soon as I have time. Moonglade is a dinette model which in some ways may have made the bolt location easier. I will post photos of those as well.

Thanks Ron,
I hope the work you are doing on Orion goes well. I know you will feel better with new parts. When do you get back in the water?
I plan to post a fairly complete report of the trials, tribulations and costs involved with swing to wing when the poroject is complete. I am trying to take alot of photos. Up to now the keel has been set and we are in the fairing out process.
I have either paid or agreed to the following:
Keel from CD $1600 Freight to Largo FL 200 per man/hour labour 42 per day lay time in yard 25 materials provided by yard ? barrier epoxy system 325
To remove the swing keel, prep, fit and set the new keel it took about 14-15 man hours. In about a week I will have a better idea and know what and how much the fairing has taken. I am guessing a good couple of days.
I took Douglas Young's excellent advice,(from the forum) visited www.epoxyproducts.com and went with their epoxy barrier coat system. Incredible site! I have only put 1 coat on the keel so far but I am really impressed.
I will post more when the project is closer to being finished and I know more.
Chris, what is your e-mail address, I tried to contact you with address in your profile but got it back as "unsendable". I'm located in Pensacola, actually took a ride to Panama City last Thursday in hope to find the yard you were in, with no luck. I purchased an '85 C-25 this past Feb., swing keel and trailer. I'm not sure of my timetable, but thinking of doing the "wing keel" thing. Interestinng thing is I have the dinette style also and was wondering about the keel bolt positioning, etc. My e-mail address is ramaedwards@aol.com, would like to get together and talk "swing to wing" pros and cons. Sure looks like a nice job. You will really like the "ride". I remember back awhile when this forum came alive with the pros and cons of.....naw..not going there Relaunching our wing next weekend in Mission Bay, San Diego. Get this: we'll be renting the slip next to JimB...we can start a fleet!!! Can't wait to get back to sailing again. Really hot day today in Hemet - makes me wish I was out on the Pacific sailing in a cool breeze.
I came up on a mark lV wing the other day while it was blowing strong. It had been blowing all day and the lake had a strong system of swells in place. We turned down into a broad reach and I had to play the swells, I was rocking alot. He was on the same tack and was like a rock! I was very impressed.
